Serra Butterfly Stool
The butterfly stool is an unconventional synthesis of traditional Far Eastern shapes and Western functionality. The butterfly stool represents one of the most unusual yet most culturally integrated forms in the history of shaped plywood furniture. Its design, with two pressure-shaped and rounded plywood panels-the two butterfly wings-allude to the intricate language of Japanese architecture and calligraphy.
With a simple metal connector,in harnessing the divergent forces of the two stool halves using the tectonic principle of compression and tension. The construction elements are so minimalistic that the do not disrupt the gracefully sweeping lines of the stool.
